New business initiative forms to push for open and competitive markets in the EU

The initiative Europe Unlocked has now been launched - a coalition and campaign for more business-friendly priorities by the next EU Commission with a focus on competitiveness through open and competitive markets.

The need for a more business-friendly policy direction at EU level is significant. The Swedish EU presidency has concluded and has successfully placed the issue of Europe’s competitiveness at the top of the EU’s agenda again. But moving forward, leverage will no longer be found through a Swedish EU presidency, and we need to build new and broader coalitions. A strategy for long-term competitiveness and productivity is in place but completing it with the necessary content will require a significant effort while ensuring that competitiveness continues to receive the attention it deserves as other pressing issues compete for policy makers’ attention.

– We are happy to announce the launch of Europe Unlocked today – a European coalition and campaign initiated by the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise pushing for a stronger focus on competitiveness under the next European Commission. Open and competitive markets are key, and so is the Single Market. That is why we are sending an SOS, Strengthen our Single Market, as part of Europe Unlocked, says Anna Stellinger, Deputy Director General and Head of International and EU affairs at Swedish Enterprise.
