The European Commission has presented its proposal for a new Directive on minimum wages. The Swedish Government, the Parliament and social partners are strongly opposed to the proposal, as it threatens to undermine the Nordic labour market model.
Swedish Enterprise has compiled the main arguments against a Directive; you can download these as a document on this page.
In this, you’ll find more information on, for example:
· The importance of autonomous social partners as a basis for the Swedish labour market model
· The potentially highly disruptive impact of binding EU rules on minimum wages
· The EU’s lack of competence in regulating pay
· The EU’s avoidance of involvement in wage formation as a prerequisite for our EU membership
· The role of wages as compensation for work performed, not as a political instrument.
